Norman Field's Celestial Beings
Norman Field
is joined by Mike Piggott and Danny Blythe to
recreate The Celestial Beings. Back in the late 1920's, singer and
blue-blower Red McKenzie made some trio and quartet records under this
name. The trio at Ayr Jazz Festival this year consists of violin, guitar
and reeds, which is nearly the same as McKenzie's line-up - so we have
"borrowed" the name.
The repertoire extends from 1920's "pop" tunes as played by the
original Celestial Beings, to 1940's ballads, ably performed by Mike with his
elegant violin style.
