The West Jesmond Rhythm Kings appeared at the first Ayr Jazz Festival in 2003 and we welcome them back again. In the interim they have played at Ayr Jazz Club.
The band was formed by trumpeter Mike Durham in Newcastle-Upon_Tyne in 1984 and specialise in the classic hot jazz of the 1920's and some "hot dance" tunes of the era.
The works of Clarence Williams are a speciality, along with the revival of tunes which are neglected by most jazzmen. The band execute these tunes with precision, polish and true musicianship. Well-known nationally and internationally.
Line-up:
Mike Durham (trumpet): Derek Fleck (clarinet, soprano, alto & tenor sax): Brian Chester (trombone): Phil Rutherford (sousaphone): Roly Veitch (banjo): Kenny Milne (drums).
The band feature on Friday afternoon (Station Hotel)
