Follow the trail of Scotlands bard to Burns Cottage, museum and the Tam O'Shanter Experience at Alloway.

Electric Brae
Take a drive along the coast road south and when you get to the Electric Brae, switch off your engine. The car will then begin to coast...... uphill!

Culzean Castle (01655) 884455
Housed in a glorious cliff-top setting, this is the National Trust's most-visited attraction complete with a deer park, swan pond, Victorian vinery, camelia house and walled garden.

Dedicated golfers will want to stump up for Turnberry or Royal Troon. But a six round pass for some of South Ayrshire's less famous courses costs only £72.

Farm Park
Children can stroke tame animals drive quad bikes and lose some energy on the trampolines at Heads of Ayr Farm Park.

It's a 36 mile drive down the M77/A77 from the centre of Glasgow.

By Rail
There's a regular half hourly service from Central Station in Glasgow.

By Air
Ryanair (www.ryanair.co.uk) fly regularly from Stansted to Prestwick Airport, only 3 miles from Ayr.

By Sea
P&O (Irish Sea) Have daily crossings from Larne to Cairnryan and Troon.
