BILL SALMOND’S LOUISIANA RAGTIME BAND

Bill Salmond’s highly popular Louisiana Ragtime Band was formed in 1969 and is Scotland’s most authentic New Orleans style band, dedicated to playing the best of New Orleans dance music.

They hail from Edinburgh and are in great demand throughout Scotland – from Orkney to Ayr Jazz Club, as well as Holland, Sweden and Switzerland (Ascona Festival).   The band was privileged to have Al Carson the New Orleans Blues and Gospel singer appear with them last year at a sell-out concert at the Edinburgh Festival.

Alton Purnell, pianist with the Bunk Johnson band which later became the George Lewis Band, has also appeared with the Louisiana Ragtimers.   Their relaxed ensemble sound comes via the talents of trombonist/vocalist and entertainer Alan Quinn;  sweet and soulful clarinettist George Gilmour, plus the steady rhythm section with Graham Scott on piano, Bill Bryden on double bass, Kenny Milne on drums and witty leader Bill Salmond on banjo and guitar.

An enjoyable session is guaranteed with this band!

Appearing on Saturday evening.
